How To Ask Her Father’s Permission

If you’ve decided to ask her parents permission to take their daughter’s hand in marriage there are certain things that you should and shouldn’t do. Asking parents for their daughter’s hand is a very respectful thing to do, if you do it the right way.  Here are some things you should and shouldn’t do when asking for their daughter’s hand

1. It should be face to face. Talking face to face it much more respectful and he will appreciate the time you took to meet with him.

2. Talk to your girlfriend about it before hand. If she isn’t on good terms with her family maybe that needs to be worked out before you can ask their hand in marriage. Once you talk to your girlfriend about it she can help guide you as to how you should ask him.

3. Meet him before you ask to marry his daughter. The first time you meet him would not be a good time to ask to marry his daughter. You need to form a relationship with him to make him feel comfortable before you throw such a big question at him.

4. Explain your intentions. Once he knows that your intentions are good he will be more accepting and supportive of the engagement.

5. Ensure that you will take good care of his daughter. Every father worries that their precious daughter won’t be taken care of and passing the responsibility of protecting her to another man can be a big deal for a father. Ensuring that you’ll take good care of her will let him relax and be at ease about it.

6. Respectfully ask for his blessing. This last step will help you gain points in your soon to be father-in-law’s book.
