Twenty Things To Do When You’re Engaged

1. Call your friends and family. If you can’t tell them in person you better get on the phone and call them. Sending an email or text is not the way to announce your engagement.

2. Get your ring sized. The worst thing would be to lose your engagement ring an hour after you get it. Getting your ring sized makes sure that it fits snug and won’t fall off your finger.

3. Insure your ring.  Nothing can replace the sentimental value of your ring, but if something happens to it, at least you can get your money back.

4. Set a date . It doesn’t have to be a specific date, but be prepared for the question everyone’s going to ask, “So, when’s the wedding?

5. Create a wedding blog/website. This way you can share your journey from your engagement to your wedding with your friends and family.

6. Get organized. Planning a wedding means taking care of lots of details. Don’t expect to remember everything meeting you have or everyone you have to call. Get something to write it all down on.

7. Start a wedding savings account. Put some money away each month so that you aren’t in debt after your big day.

8. Start putting together a guest list. The guest list is one of the hardest parts of a wedding, starting it early will take away stress later on.

9. Perfect your proposal story. Everyone’s going to be asking and if you have your proposal story down pat it’s much easier to tell.

10. Take engagement photos. You’re going to want pictures of the two of you before you start getting caught up in the craziness of planning a wedding. You can also use these photos to make save the date cards to send out to your wedding guests.

11. Spend time together. It sounds silly, but it’s so easy to fall into a routine where you are both so busy you never have time for each other. It’s important to set aside time to be with each other away from the craziness of life because before you know it your wedding will be here and you’ll feel like you never truly got to enjoy your engagement with each other.

12. Plan your honeymoon. Believe it or not, this is one of the most forgotten things of weddings. Keep a look out for cheap flight and hotel prices so you’re not spending a ton of money on your honeymoon.

13. Decide if you want a planner. It’s better to decide this early so that you don’t have to spend as much time catching the planner up on what you’ve already started planning.

14. Get inspired. Read blogs, hit up pinterest, or check out wedding magazines.

15. Start talking money. It’s definitely a touchy subject for some people and one of the top reasons marriages fall apart. If you’re going to be living together and married, you should start making decisions on whether you want joint or separate accounts, who pays for what, and what your spending limits are.

16. Get away for a wedding-free weekend. This would be the perfect way to spent time together and distress for a weekend. If money is an issue, don’t plan a big trip maybe just a trip to the city or countryside. You could even just take a day trip to go on a hike and talk about stuff other than wedding plans!

17. Register. Who doesn’t love going around stores picking out everything they want just so someone else can buy it for them. Make sure that the both of you are there for this so you both can agree on what to register for.

18. Spend time with other couples. This is the perfect time to pick the other couple’s brain about their wedding, what they liked, what they wished they could have changed, etc. Hearing about people’s real life experience will help you with your planning.

19. Spend time with your bridesmaids and groomsmen. You don’t want to forget about the people that are helping you throughout your wedding process. Take a girls night, or invite the guys over to watch a game. Have quality bonding time not talking about the wedding.

20. Relax!  No one wants to deal with people who are high strung and on edge all the time. Take time to relax, whether it be getting a manicure (that will go nice with your sparkly new ring) or just curling up on the couch and watching your favorite movie or TV show.
